Divide into two put one half in a bowl and the other half in a pan. Cover the plantain in the bowl with the water and leave to infuse for 10 minutes.<br \/>\nIn the pan, add the olive (or sunflower) and almond oils to the plantain and heat gently to simmering point. Don&#8217;t allow to boil if it starts boiling, take off the heat immediately. Once at simmering point, remove from the heat and leave for 10 minutes to cool.<\/p>\n<p>Strain the plantain leaves from the water in the bowl, reserving the infused water and discarding the leaves. Set the liquid to one side.<\/p>\n<p>Drain the infused oil into another pan, discarding the plantain leaves. Heat the oil again. Add the beeswax and emulsifying wax and melt, stirring. Aim for a foamy consistency.<br \/>\nAdd 1 cup of the infused water to the pan and whisk to achieve a consistency like salad dressing. Add the glycerine and vitamin C powder.<\/p>\n<p>Pour into sterilized glass jars and seal.<br \/>\nNote: Apply to affected area as often as needed. Research has still not confirmed this claim (see: http:\/\/nccam.nih.gov\/<a class=\"expresscurate_contentTags\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foodmedcenter.org\/tag\/health\/\">#health<\/a>\/valerian#<a class=\"expresscurate_contentTags\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foodmedcenter.org\/tag\/science\/\">#science<\/a> )<\/p>\n<p>Makes 3 cups<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients<\/p>\n<p>3 tablespoons fresh valerian root<br \/>\n3 tablespoons fresh lemon balm leaves<br \/>\n3 teaspoons fresh lavender flowers<br \/>\n6 leaves and 3 heads from fresh passion flowers<br \/>\nPeel of 1 1\/2 oranges<br \/>\n3.5 cups (900 ml) full-fat milk<br \/>\n1.8 ounces (50 g) dark chocolate (minimum 50% cocoa solids)<br \/>\nDash of vanilla extract<\/p>\n<p>Method<\/p>\n<p>Chop the top and bottom from the fresh valerian root. Add the valerian, lemon balm, lavender, passion flowers, orange peel and milk to a pan and gently heat for 5-10 minutes. Strain.<\/p>\n<p>Pour the infused milk back into the pan, then add the dark chocolate and vanilla extract and stir until melted. Drink at once.<\/p>\n<p>Note:\u00a0 You can drink up to 3 cups a day for two weeks at a time. Cover and cook on medium-low heat for 45 minutes.<br \/>\nNote: For variety, leafy greens like kale or chard and seasonal vegetables like zucchini, carrots, green beans and corn are especially good in this recipe as a substitution for the frozen vegetables. Using kitchen scissors, trim off the pointy parts of all the leaves.<\/p>\n<p>Take the lemon halves and rub all over the artichokes, squeezing the excess juice into each artichoke center.<\/p>\n<p>Fill a large saucepan with 2 to 3 inches of water. Slice the squeezed lemon halves and place in the saucepan. Dr. Platkin has occupied influential roles in public health, notably serving as the Executive Director of the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center from 2012 to 2023. During this time, he played a pivotal role in shaping food-related policies in New York City. His entrepreneurial leadership extends across multiple sectors: he is the co-founder and strategic advisor to Diversion Books (DiversionBooks.com), a book publishing company; Chief Strategy Officer at PopCom Health (PopComHealth.com); founder and managing director of Magoo Properties (MagooProperties.com); and co-founder and director of MedicalBx (MedicalBx.com), which develops boutique hospitals and mobile medical clinics to enhance healthcare access in underserved areas. His leadership also extended to co-founding and operating organizations like Integrated Wellness Solutions, where he leveraged innovative approaches and technology to enhance health and wellness. He is a powerful advocate for healthier communities and for shaping the field of nutrition and food policy in lasting ways. Dr. Platkin has made significant contributions to the field of public health and nutrition issues through his research. He has published in several peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals, including the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, the Journal of Obesity and Weight Loss, the International Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics, BioMed Central (BMC) Obesity; and the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. He is the author of eight books. His forthcoming book, Eat to Cheat Death: Using Food as Medicine to Live Better, Live Stronger, Live Healthier, and Live Longer (Simon &amp; Schuster, 2027), synthesizes cutting-edge research on nutrition and longevity. His first book, Breaking the Pattern (Red Mill Press 2002, Plume 2004), was a bestseller in hardcover; it has been used by addiction clinics to assist patients with resolving drug and alcohol-related issues, and more than 20 universities around the country use it as a text to teach behavioral change techniques to nutrition and dietetic counseling interns. His other titles include The Diet Detective's Count Down (Simon and Schuster, 2007), The Diet Detective's Calorie Bargain Bible (Simon and Schuster, 2008), The Diet Detective's Diet Starter Kit (Diversion, 2011), and The Diet Detective's All-American Diet (Rodale, 2012). Charles Platkin's contributions to the fields of health, nutrition, and public policy have earned him recognition and numerous accolades. He was cited by the New York State Governor for his contributions to the development of nutrition materials for NYS Mentoring in March 2019, showcasing his dedication to public health and education. He was also honored as a Politics of Food honoree by City &amp; State in November 2018 for his commitment to promoting healthy eating and food policy reform.
