Healthier. Better. Stronger.
Using Food as Medicine to Live Better,
Live Stronger, Live Healthier, and Live Longer
Introduction
Diet has the potential to cause or prevent disease, treat illness, and build, maintain, and restore health. Modern medicine has begun integrating food into its toolkit to improve health outcomes and treat various conditions. Traditional Western medicine can be more effective in treating certain diseases when combined with food as medicine interventions. Food, including dietary supplements and herbs, impacts our health and can play an active role in preventing, fighting, and curing diseases.
Healthcare systems and governments are recognizing the power of food as medicine, exemplified by initiatives like medically tailored meals (MTMs) and food prescriptions. NYC Health and Hospitals serve plant-based meals, and the New York City Department of Education has introduced Meatless Mondays and Plant-Powered Fridays in public schools. These interventions emphasize fresh produce and whole foods, promising enhanced health outcomes.
The Center for Food As Medicine (CFAM) continuously analyzes diet and nutrition information, ensuring the most accurate and up-to-date information is available. Our goal is to avoid the common mistake of using limited studies to create narratives, instead letting research lead the science. The challenge lies in distinguishing verifiable truths from misinformation and pseudoscience. For every diligent scientist, there is an online influencer spreading potentially hazardous advice. Social media and search engines like Google often spread misinformation, complicating medical research.
CFAM is a not-for-profit organization bridging traditional/allopathic medicine and food as medicine. We translate vital information into an easily usable, scientifically sound, exhaustive guide – analyzing, synthesizing, and disseminating the most up-to-date picture of how food and dietary supplements can be used as medicine to live a healthier, stronger, better, and longer life.
Project Overview: Disease-Specific Food as Medicine Research and Resource Guides
Disease, Wellness, and Healthspan Evidenced-based Food as Medicine Research and Resource Guides
are set to revolutionize health education. These comprehensive guides will offer evidence-based insights into the impact of food and dietary supplements on various health conditions. The Center’s experts will meticulously curate and update these guides daily, ensuring they remain accurate, relevant, and accessible. Hosted on the Center’s website, these guides will be freely accessible to everyone and translated into multiple languages, democratizing health knowledge and providing health agencies.
