Haidy Kamel, PhD

Dr. Haidy N. Kamel is an Associate Professor of Chemistry and the President of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) chapter at Cuyahoga Community College, Eastern Campus. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Suez Canal University, Egypt before pursuing graduate studies at the University of Mississippi, where she obtained her Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy (Natural Products Chemistry) in 2004. With a strong background in drug discovery from natural sources, Dr. Kamel was awarded a fellowship from the National Institute of Underwater Science and Technology (NIUST) in 2006, allowing her to advance her research in drug discovery and marine natural products. Her scholarly contributions include 12 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as the Journal of Natural Products, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, and Tetrahedron. Since joining Cuyahoga Community College in 2011, Dr. Kamel has been dedicated to teaching and faculty advocacy. She teaches a range of chemistry courses, including Organic Chemistry, and introductory chemistry courses, along with an online course on herbal and dietary supplements. As AAUP president, she actively champions faculty rights, academic freedom, and shared governance, ensuring that educators have a strong voice in institutional decision-making."
